The Equation by Chad Seiter.

Like it is the case with so many shows, the first season of Fringe is still by far the strongest. In terms of presenting this new mysterious universe and its vastness, it excelled in such a way that subsequent seasons couldn’t. While the score has improved, I still can’t get enough of this first one.

Piano In An Empty Room by Vangelis.

I can’t ever get tired of listening to this score. It always seems to mesmerize me unlike very few albums can. Every time I think about this score, I realize that no words exists that could ever adequately convey just how much I love it. Such spellbinding beauty.

Nell’ Incanto by Ludovico Einaudi.

So in my search for new music I stumbled upon this impeccable and utterly amazing score. I have never seen Sotto Falso Nome, but with a score like this I imagine the film must be equally great. This song just exudes longing.

Metamorphosis Five by Philip Glass.

I started watching season 2 of Battlestar Galactica today and during the second episodes Starbuck plays this song in her home. You have no idea how happy this made, it made me appreciate that character on a whole new level. This is one of those very minimalist songs that is able to conjure up such a level of melancholy that it just grips you from the first note.

Duke Ellington | “The Star-Crossed Lovers”

“The piano trio finished an original blues number and began the intro to ‘Star-Crossed Lovers.’ When I was in the bar, the pianist would often strike up that ballad, knowing it was a favorite of mine. It wasn’t one of Ellington’s bestknown tunes, and I had no particular memories associated with it; just happened to hear it once, and it struck some chord within me. From college to those bleak textbookcompany years, come evening I’d listen to the Such Sweet Thunder album, the ‘Star-Crossed Lovers’ track over and over. Johnny Hodges had this sensitive and elegant solo on it. Whenever I heard that languid, beautiful melody, those days came back to me. It wasn’t what I’d characterize as a happy part of my life, living as I was, a balled-up mass of unfulfilled desires. I was much younger, much hungrier, much more alone. But I was myself, pared down to the essentials. I could feel each single note of music, each line I read, seep down deep inside me. My nerves were sharp as a blade, my eyes shining with a piercing light. And every time I heard that music, I recalled my eyes then, glaring back at me from a mirror.”

Beginner’s Theme Suite by Brian Reitzell, Dave Palmer & Roger Neill.

I’m so in love with this soundtrack! This is such an amazing, beautiful and piano-driven track that I cannot get enough of. Definitely one of the many reasons why Beginners is my second favorite film of 2011.
