Started and finished reading On The Head of a Pin by Walter Mosley today on the drive back home. I had zero expectations for this short novel and I was pleasantly surprised by how overwhelmingly thoughtful and amazing it was. The story was quite simple but it introduced some really interesting and intriguing themes that constantly made me think and re-think certain things. I love when a book manages to do that, that’s when you know you’re reading something special/good. And the protagonist is easily one of the most endearing and relatable I’ve read in a while. I highly recommend it! I’ll start reading the other short novel later today perhaps.

I finished David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas a couple of days ago and I loved every word of it. Suffice to say that Cloud Atlas is a masterpiece and I was so blown away by it that I decided to buy another of Mitchell’s books. What really impresses me about his writing style is that he is able to make you care about the character and the story from the first page. That level of immediate engagement is hard to find and even though I’m only 10 pages into Number9Dream I’m already loving it.

Started reading David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas last night and something curious happened during my reading. Not since I read Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go have I felt such a connection with a book and the feeling that I am reading a transcendent work of literature. In under two hours I read a quarter of Cloud Atlas and I am loving every second of it. It’s really amazing how quickly David Mitchell manages to make you care and fall in love with the protagonists in the different stories. Everyone should do themselves a favor and read this book.

Today I finally finished John Le Carre’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I have to admit though, the book starts excruciatingly slow but always manages to stay intriguing and interesting. The last 10 chapters are brilliant and very suspenseful even though you can somewhat predict what will happen. Now more than ever I’m really looking forward to the film, especially Benedict Cumberbatch’s Peter Guillam who is my favorite character. I also noticed that the casting of the film is pretty spot-on, I could totally see each actor playing their respective character.

Started reading The Hunger Games last thursday and I am loving ever second of it. At first I was a bit annoyed by Katniss but she quickly grew on me and now I think she is one of the most awesome female characters I’ve ever read. I’m halfway through the book and hopefully I’ll finish it by the end of the week.
Before I started to read it I was a bit hesitant that the image of Jennifer Lawrence would form in my head, but the more I keep reading the less I see her as Katniss. The Katniss that I’m picturing is pretty different from jennifer Lawrence, but it’s too late and completely pointless for me to start complaining about that casting decision. At any case, now more than ever I’m eagerly anticipating some footage of Lawrence in action as Katniss.
P.S. Say what you want about Peeta, but that two-faced pussy needs to be beaten up asap.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings obliteration. I will face fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gones past I will turn the inner eye to its path. Where the fear has gone there will ne nothing. Only I will remain.
Frank Herbert (from Dune).

Terror washed over him as he lay on the floor, with that funeral drum pounding inside him. Would it hurt to die? All those times he had thought that it was about to happen and escaped, he had never really thought of the thing itself: His will to live had always been so much stronger than his fear of death. Yet it did not occur to him now to try and escape, to outrun Voldemort. It was over, he knew it, and all that was left was the thing itself: dying.

He was a lonely ghot uttering a truth that nobody would ever hear. But so long as he uttered it, in some obscure way the continuity was not broken. It was not by making yourself heard but by staying sane that you carried on the human heritage.
“1984” (written by George Orwell).

The first time you glimpse yourself through the eyes of a person like that, it’s a cold moment. It’s like walking past a mirror you’ve walked past every day of your life, and suddenly it shows you something else, something troubling and strange.
