A couple of weeks ago one of my room-mates was blasting some old songs by Christina Aguilera, which made kinda want to listen to her stuff again. So I downloaded Back to Basics. I think I had this album when it was first released, but then I erased it and I’m sure I didn’t hear it all the way through. Anyway, after hearing it constantly for a couple of weeks now, I must admit that I am in LOVE with Christina Aguilera’s voice and her most powerful and original album.
Back to Basics is a two disc album. The first disc sets the mood and establishes the fusion between retro and modern pop music, but with more emphasis on the latter. It also has the most up-beat songs of the whole album, with such songs as: Back In The Day, Ain’t No Other Man, Slow Down Baby, On Our Way and Here To Stay. There are some laid-back tracks also, but they all feel very up-beat and happy. The song Still Dirrty is pretty funny in my opinion, because it’s her basically singing about guess what? How she is still dirty.
The second disc starts with an EPIC introduction called Enter The Circus, with an amazing choir that reminds of a scene in a movie. The second disc which is has more of a retro, sentimental and unplugged feeling to it and it where my love for this album began. I think Christina Aguilera is at her best when she has a simple beat behind her and the focus is mainly on her voice, like in the song Save Me From Myself (my favorite track). This second disc is packed with emotional and very honest tracks such as: The Right Man, Mercy On Me and Hurt. My only problem with it is the song Candyman, which is completely misplaced and yeah it’s a nice up-beat track, but it doesn’t fit with the whole feeling of the second disc.
The running theme of the album is clearly Christina Aguilera’s daddy issues and how he wasn’t there. Another theme is love, which is in every pop album ever made, but she makes it work. Back to Basics feels very fresh, original and truly timeless. I don’t think Christina Aguilera will ever make an album like this one, and her upcoming album serves as proof. I heard her new single and I was disappointed because she’s suppose to be ahead of everyone, she was suppose to come up with something original, but her new single just sounds like everything that’s out right now. Anyway, Back to Basics is slowly becoming one of my favorite pop albums ever, it is short of perfection.
It is a reggaeton song and I know this type of music is not very popular here in tumblr. While I agree it isn’t groundbreaking stuff, it is however perfect for dancing and I love to dance to it. I’m latino and this is the type of music we play in our parties, so yeah.
A First Impressions Anecdote of: Prince of Persia.
Let me start off by saying that I was really excited for this movie, I thought it looked like a really fun movie. After the opening scene, which was like 10 minutes, ended I said to myself: “I am going to hate this movie.” That opening scene had bad dialogue, terrible acting, situation that don’t make sense, and lots of CGI. But I said to myself that maybe once Jake Gyllenhaal appears it will get better and did it? Somewhat…
Prince of Persia is about an orphan boy who gets adopted by the king and then becomes a prince. Jake Gyllenhaal is this prince and without giving to much away, not that it matters, he finds this dagger that turns back time and has to use it to save the kingdom. Gemma Arterton is the princess and guardian of such dagger and she accompanies him through his journey. She is actually a real joy to watch on screen, very beautiful woman.
My main problem with this movie was the terrible dialogue and overly predictable plot, you can tell miles away where the movie is going and what each character is going to say at any time. Luckily the film’s action pieces, stunts and CGI are really cool and make this watchable in my eyes. For all intents and purposes the films is good as long as no one is talking, no one except Alfred Molina who steals every scene that he is in. He brings a much needed comedy and he is the best thing about this movie.
I didn’t think Jake Gyllehaal carried this movie well, I won’t argue that he looks and acts like an action star, learning all those stunts and everything. But I think the movie was too much for him and he wasn’t as a captivating lead actor as say Johnny Deep or even Tobey Maguire. Overall Prince of Persia is a mindless sort of fun summer movie that I would never watch again.
There are like a million songs I know all the words to. But to make it easier for me I decided to pick a song I enjoy singing the lyrics of. I love singing all The xx songs, all of them are just amazing, but this one in particular I enjoy the most. When they sang this at the concert it was beyond cool and the whole crowd was singing along.
I started watching He’s Just Not That Into You, because my best friend told me that the film represented how bad and selfish men are, and how we use women. Yes the film does show men in that way, but I’m just having more trouble understanding how the women are represented. I mean is it totally wrong for me say that according to this movie all women are dumb and 100% dependent on men? It’s only been 20 minutes and the protagonist is already going on stacker mode because a guy didn’t call her back, a guy who she just met. I’m not saying that I’m an expert in understanding women, but I’m just having a hard time believing that these characters are in any way a reflection of how women really are. This movie is stereotyping women in a way that if I were a girl I would be so fuckin’ insulted. While I won’t argue that there some girls who do get obsessed about a certain guy who they just met, not all of them are like that.
When Scarlett Johansson’s character is introduced she’s just acts so dumb and naive, and she keeps letting the guy make all the decisions. Um excuse me, you have a brain too! It all seems so stupid to me, I can’t wrap my head around people saying that this movie really represents how women are. It’s totally wrong! Don’t give me that bullshit that all women are that dependent on men, that is ridiculous. I would understand if you are dependent on him if you two are in love and such, but if it’s dude you just met then what the fuck is he to you? Either way, you can still be independent. It doesn’t matter if you’re in a relationship or not, you can still make your own decisions.
Maybe the film gets better afterwards, I really doubt it though. But it is just really pissing me off and if for the next 20 minutes things don’t change, I’m going to stop watching this shit.
She released this song in the summer of 2006 and during that time I was in Venezuela, which where I was born. That was the last time I ever went there and saw all my family. It’s odd out of all the songs, a Madonna song is the one that reminds of my country. She’s awesome, so I don’t mind.
I had been debating which film to pick for hours and hours. It was all between this trilogy, The Departed, Children of Men, Kill Bill Vol. 2 and The Aviator. But I have to be true to myself so I chose The Matrix Trilogy. These films taught me so much about filmmaking and they were first films that I really obsessed about and was anticipating like a mad men. I know all the dialogue of the 3 films and all action scenes, everything. They got better with each one and you can say what you want about them and you would be wrong. Just kidding but to they are amazing and perfect and exciting no matter how many times I see them. It’s been 7 years since the last one was released and I still jump in the couch and cheer when I see them. That’s when you know that film is truly great, when it never loses it magic.
